Environmental Commitment with all the Credentials

To ensure garments are produced ecologically and sustainably, Stanley/Stella must respect high-level environmental criteria along the entire textiles supply chain and must meet compliance with social standards as well.

Stanley/Stella is certified by the following organisations; GOTS, OE 100, OE Blended, OEKO TEX, PETA-Approved Vegan, and REACH. The brand only uses certified organic cotton and other natural or recycled materials.

Eco-friendly Fibres & Material: Use of Natural fibres

The majority of Stanley/Stella's products are made using 100% organic cotton. Organic cotton is used because it is a natural, GMO-free fibre that uses less water than standard cotton. Further to this, its production is free from chemicals (no fertilisers or pesticides) and encourages crop rotation to keep soil healthy, more fertile, and maintain humidity. All of these factors ensure choosing Stanley/Stella is an option that is not detrimental to farm workers' & the wearer's health.

Stanley/Stella also use linen in a number of their garments. Linen is a hard-wearing natural fibre that is very eco-friendly. Linen is quite remarkable because it can be grown without the use of chemicals or irrigation. Rainwater is all that it requires to develop.

Sustainably Produced Manmade fibres

Lenzing Tencel® and Modal® are biodegradable fibres and are created using eucalyptus or beech-tree pulp. Eucalyptus is an Australian native tree that is fast-growing & does not require irrigation because it has evolved to grow in harsh & dry environments. Eucalyptus trees aren't just a great source of food for Koalas & medicinal remedies for humans but can also be used to create breathable, soft & absorbent fabrics.

The process for manufacturing Lenzing Tencel from eucalyptus is as follows; the wood is harvested, some other woods may also be used. The wood is cut into pieces & turned into a pulp which is then dissolved using amine oxide. This is a viscous liquid, which is pushed through a spinneret to create the fibres. Once the fibres have been washed & dried, they are spun into yarn before creating the tencil fabric. The tencil is sourced from sustainable forestry & when compared to non-organic cotton, the production process uses 50% less water.

When considering the product used & end-of-life, the tencil doesn't release microfibres which is a significant advantage of synthetic fibres such as polyester - the fabric is also recyclable & biodegradable.

Stanley/Stella uses recycled polyester and recycled cotton to manufacture their jackets and accessories such as tote & gym bags.

The Global Recycled Standard label displayed on these products certifies that the materials used are recycled. For polyester, this comes from plastic bottles. For cotton, this comes from cutting waste. The GRS label also guarantees compliance with social and environmental. These criteria include the treatment of wastewater, the absence of certain toxic additives and the working conditions in Stanley/Stella's factories.

Reduction of Water Consumption

Water is a very precious resource. Stanley/Stella tries to reduce its water consumption as much as possible. The exclusive use of organic cotton creates a healthy soil that is more efficient with the use of water & is more resistant to dry weather conditions. Organic cotton production keeps waterways and drinking water safe and clean by eliminating synthetic pesticides, insecticides and fertilisers.

Stanley/Stella's partner factories have invested in a biological wastewater treatment system. This wastewater system recycles their water for reuse in sanitation, irrigation or refrigeration.

The latest technology in dying machines is used to reduce water consumption during the dyeing process, and this sees a reduction in water use of up to 50%.

Ethically Produced Blank Apparel

Stanley/Stella's factories strictly follow the International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions & standards. Stanley/Stella has a team of 19 people, who regularly visit each factory to ensure garment workers get a decent wage, their rights are respected, and there is no gender-based discrimination. According to the strictest "Fire & Building" standards, an independent body must also approve the partner factories.

Stanley/Stella is a recognised member of the Fair Wear Foundation, a Dutch independent association whose members are committed to improving the working conditions in the textile industry.

Most of the Stanley/Stella products are GOTS certified. GOTS tracks the entire chain of production from farm to factory and ensures compliance with the labour standards of the International Labour Organisation throughout the chain of production.

Together with our water-based screenprint & GOTS Certified Stanley/Stella garments, this makes for an eco-friendly & ethical product. If you are looking for custom printed clothing, you can be confident has been produced with eco-friendly and ethical manufacturing practices to represent your brand values effectively; look no further than Stanley Stella.
