Case study: Woven ink printing for Urbanaut
This month, we printed some tees for our mates at Urbanaut Brewery to promote their new brew, Atlanta Bright IPA. Known for their bold beers and striking branding, we wanted to make sure the tee replicated the vibrancy of their cracking new drop.
The retro-futuristic artwork demanded a print method that could handle intricate details and intense colours. So we printed these using our woven inks. Sometimes called discharge printing, woven inks allow us to print high-colour artworks onto dark garments. It also produces vivid, long-lasting colours while keeping the fabric soft.
Our woven ink process removes the original garment dye to reveal the natural cotton colour. The print then goes into the fabric, rather than layers on top. It makes for a super-soft and lightweight print that retains the garment's natural feel. Woven ink also ensures the print will maintain its vibrancy through repeated washes and wear.
Using woven ink allowed us to achieve:
- Bright (and many) colours on a dark garment without losing any detail in the design (and no need for an underbase).
- A soft, smooth print that doesn't affect the garment's comfort.
- A durable print.
Why we recommend AS Colour’s Coal garments for woven inks.
Woven inks don’t work with all garments and is often affected by the original dyeing process. We’ve tested black tees from AS Colour and found they don’t discharge to a neutral base very well as they’re too colourfast. But the Coal colour does. It’s a great alternative if you’re looking for a dark coloured t-shirt (with a high-colour print).
